- Saturday, May 10th - 4th Annual Wrightsville Beach Challenge: In this kayak race participants paddle from our rental facility (soundside across from the Blockade Runner Hotel) out Masonboro Inlet to Crystal Pier and back. The race is 6 miles long and is designed for intermediate to advanced paddlers looking to test their inlet navigation and oceanside kayaking skills. The race benefits the Cape Fear Community College Boat Building School, and CFCC will be raffling off a beautiful wooden kayak. All racers get one free ticket and the raffle is open to the public. 4th Annual Wrightsville Beach Challenge Sea Kayak Race (press release)
- Saturday, May 17th - Camp Lejuene ACA Clinic The American Canoe Association has a basic set of criteria that it feels all coastal kayakers should know. In this class, ACA Instructor Robert Smith will cover basic stokes, coastal tides and currents, coastal weather, rescues and recovery in a sea kayak, loading and carrying kayaks, and take everyone on a tour of the marshlands behind Gottschalk Marina on Camp Lejuene. This class is open to non-military personel. Reservations Required; $85 per person; 6 hrs.
